My wife's been rewatching Supernatural lately. Not really my cup of tea but it has a killer soundtrack — tons of great rock and roll, mostly older music, but still really good.
Which got me thinking about an old favorite of mine, The Wonder Years, which also had great music in every episode. For a long time (and maybe still), it didn't show in reruns, was hard to find on DVD and impossible to find on streaming platforms, and the prevailing explanation was that the royalties on the music were too high to make it worthwhile to rerun the show.
So how does Supernatural do it? Did they negotiate better royalty deals? Or maybe the fact that there are like 300 episodes dilutes the costs?
